Applesauce

imageHere is our applesauce ready to eat. We were a little worried that it wouldn’t be done in time but the students thought it tasted great!  They requested the recipe so here it is:

Crockpot Applesauce

15 apples peeled and sliced

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

2 tsp.  cinnamon

Put it all in a crockpot for four hours on High. We used a potato masher and left it a little chunky.

Have fun and enjoy!

Apple Week

Among the many things we’ve been doing this week is having fun with apples.  Here are some recent photos:

What a busy week we’ve had so far!  We have now begun to have two center rotations each morning.  This means that the students take turns going to five tables with special activities for learning math and reading.

In the afternoons we have been working on art and science, this week has focused on the four seasons, especially fall.

Today’s Work

Today we worked on Science: Day and Night.  I will send home a sheet tomorrow to help you discuss what we are learning in school.

We also made a class book based on David Goes to School by David Shannon. Each student was able to describe and illustrate things that they could and could not do in school.  We’ve had many discussions about rules and how students should behave.

During centers we tried out the computers for the first time.  The students did a good job learning how to navigate the website and move their cursor with the mouse.  We’re still figuring out left clicks rather than right clicks but we will work again tomorrow!

Regarding library books: We will be checking out books every week but will  keep them in our classroom to read when we have the chance.

Here are a few pictures of some of the centers we did today.

We’ve Been Busy

As I mentioned in the Friday Newsletter, I have been testing students for our reading program.  It is going well and in the meantime students have been getting used to centers and how rotations work.  Each table activity lasts for ten minutes and then students rotate clockwise in order to visit each table with their group.  We’re working together and taking turns!

The First Two Days

We had Show and Tell for the first time today and the students are catching on quickly.  They are listening to the speaker and asking questions to learn more.

We spent some time today exploring pattern blocks and rehearsing a fire drill.  We learned some yoga poses to relax our bodies and help us pay attention.  We explored the classroom library and spent some time writing and drawing in our notebooks.

One our favorite things today was eating Mr. Boelk’s Friday popcorn for snack!

Here are some photos from the past two days:

First Day Fun

We did a LOT of work yesterday getting to know how things work in our classroom.  We practiced:

  • how to line up
  • how to walk in the hall
  • how to sit together
  • how to wash up
  • how to get milk in the cafeteria
  • where the bathrooms are located in the kindergarten room
  • where our supplies are stored
  • where to play on the playground
  • sign language for bathroom, quiet and questions
  • writing our names and speaking in front of the class
  • and coloring a picture of ourselves on the first day of school

The students had Mr. Chiabotti for gym class and enjoyed having his attention!

Pictures to come soon!
